It’s that time of the year again! Summer has officially begun, and with it, the time for all sorts of fun outdoor activities. Swimming, grilling, hanging out on patios—the list goes on and on, but it just wouldn’t really be summer without loading up the family Honda SUV and going to see some fireworks on the 4th, would it?

Wolf Creek Park July 3rd Celebration

Just an hour south of Joplin, the folks in Grove are celebrating a day early. The celebration takes place right by the shores of Grand Lake in beautiful Wolf Creek Park, and there’s going to be live music, food trucks, and even free watermelon. Thanks to an extra few thousand dollars from the Grand River Dam Authority, the event promises to be bigger than ever.

Pittsburg’s 4th of July Celebration

The people of Pittsburg, KS know how to do an Independence Day celebration right, and this is surely one you’ll want to consider. Years past have hosted a 5K, dog shows, a tennis tournament, and more, and it’s been known to draw a crowd of upwards of 10,000. The event starts at 8:00 am, so even if you have other plans for the fireworks later, this event is well worth checking out.

As residents of Joplin probably already know, Carthage is throwing a massive all-day blowout that you certainly don’t want to miss. This free event begins at noon with a community swim at the municipal pool, with plenty of things to do before the fireworks pop off at 9:30 pm, including Kiwanis Kiddieland Rides, face painting, airbrushing, a watermelon feed, food trucks, and tons of local vendors.

4th of July Celebration at Buffalo Run

Ever seen fireworks over a casino before? Well, if not, here’s your chance, and boy what a chance it is. The local Peoria Tribe and Buffalo Run are sponsoring a major blowout that starts at 6 pm and features live music from rising star Kaylee Rose. Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty for the kids to do too, with all sorts of activities, food trucks, and more. This is going to be the biggest show in Ottawa County, so make sure you show up early to get a good seat.
