Not many of us had “Honda releasing an all-new Prelude with a hybrid powertrain” on our 2025 bingo card, but boy are we glad they’ve decided to do it anyway.
The Honda Prelude is one of the brand’s most iconic models, with a run from 1978 all the way through 2001. The coupe was especially popular with the racing crowd, but it also exemplified everything people love about Honda in general. Now, you can expect to see an all-new Prelude in the very near future.
Here are all the details that have been announced.
New Honda Prelude: What We Know So Far
As of this writing, there are still a lot of questions that haven’t been answered yet, but we do have some key details:
- The 2026 Prelude doesn’t have an official release date yet, but last month, Honda said that we could expect it to arrive at your local Honda dealership near Springfield, MO sometime in late 2025.
- In keeping with Honda’s ongoing electrification strategy, the 2026 Prelude will be powered by Honda’s two-motor hybrid system. This system has received numerous accolades for delivering exceptional fuel economy and superb driving dynamics.
- Like the classic model, the new Prelude will come in a two-door coupe body style. This is intended to fill the gap left by the Civic Coupe and Accord Coupe, which were both discontinued several years ago.
- The Prelude will debut a new drive mode called Honda S+ Shift, which uses Linear Shift Control to create a fun and engaging experience. This feature is included to honor the old Prelude, which was a favorite of performance and racing aficionados in the ‘90s and ‘00s.
Pricing for the 2026 Honda Prelude hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we can take some clues from other hybrid cars in their lineup. The 2025 Civic Sedan Hybrid starts out at just $28,950, while the Accord Hybrid starts at $33,655, so it’s likely that the Prelude will be somewhere in that range when it debuts. Many other specs and features of the new Honda Prelude haven’t been announced either, but we fully expect it to provide the same thrilling experience as the old model with plenty of the updated tech, comfort, and safety features found in present-day Honda cars.
