Every year, Car and Driver takes a hard look at the entire selection of vehicles in the United States. They then select their 10Best winners from that group of more than 300 cars, SUVs, crossovers, trucks, and vans. Winning that award is a tremendous honor and, just like winning the Stanley Cup in back-to-back years, a repeat appearance is uncommon for an auto brand.
The exception to that rule is Honda, and in particular its mega-popular Accord.
Honda needs more shelf space for its trophies
We at Roper Honda are excited to represent a car company with several repeat winners of the Car and Driver 10Best award:- Of course, there’s the Accord, which has been named a 10Best vehicle an amazing 36 times and deserves its own wing in the automotive museum.
- The departed Honda Fit has a trophy case with seven 10Bests on display.
- Civic proudly shows off eight 10Best awards.
- The amazing Prelude, which also left the US market some time ago, managed to collect 10 of these prestigious trophies.
But back to the Accord…

So, how on earth can one vehicle win so many times and be so far ahead when it comes to trophy count?
Spend a little time online researching everything the Accord offers, and we’re confident you’ll understand exactly why the Accord dominates like Billy Madison playing dodgeball. Here are a few reasons why the 2022 Accord nabbed its 36th 10Best win.
Respect the specs
Let’s start with the engine. The 2022 Honda Accord offers a standard 192 HP turbocharged 1.5-liter 4 cylinder paired to a continuously variable transmission, with the option of a 252-hp 2.0L four-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic. The 1.5L offers tremendous efficiency with an EPA rating of 30 city/38 highway/33 combined MPG. The sporty 2.0L engine trades a little efficiency for a more thrilling ride, as is proven by Motor Trend's review and 5.5-second 0-60 test result.
The 2022 Accord also offers a Hybrid car to maximize MPG. The 2022 Accord Hybrid nets EPA MPG ratings of 48 city/47 highway/47 combined in the standard trim.
Infotainment? More like WINfotainment!
The 2022 Honda Accord features impressive standard infotainment technology to make your commute, road trip, or errands more pleasant. You’ll have a crystal clear 8” touchscreen, sensibly laid-out controls, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration (with the wireless version of each available), optional wireless charging, and available Wi-Fi to keep you connected just about anywhere the road leads you.
Let’s not forget the head-up display (HUD), which is a differentiator among Honda sedans. Standard on the Accord Touring, the HUD delivers all critical information you need to get from A to B (to Z), such as driving speed, a compass, turn-by-turn directions, and incoming calls. That’s a win if we’ve ever seen one.
Warming up for the “Safety Dance”

Every 2022 Honda Accord features the remarkable Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist and safety technologies as standard equipment. Let’s break down these features and their long names:
- The Collision Mitigation Braking System can apply brake pressure to help avoid collisions when a person or vehicle is detected in your path. Seems pretty important.
- The Lane Keeping Assist System uses a front-facing camera to detect lane lines and can keep you centered in your lane by adjusting steering input. A nice perk, for sure.
- The Road Departure Mitigation System can keep you safe by adjusting your steering and braking if the sensors detect that you’ve accidentally gone off-road. You can avoid the system intervening by consistently using your turn signals, which you always should do anyway – you’re not a BMW owner, after all.
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow detects vehicles ahead and maintains a safe following distance from surrounding traffic. It’s a pill for shin splints during rush hour, believe us.
- One of our favorite safety features is Accord’s Traffic Sign Recognition system. It uses the 2022 Accord’s cameras to notify you of posted speed limits while displaying them on your dashboard and optional Head-Up Display.
- The reliable Blind Spot Information System is up next, and this stalwart safety companion will alert you to vehicles in adjacent lanes. It will even flash and produce an audible alert if there’s a car next to you when switching on your turn signal. It’ll keep you out of the body shop.
- How about Cross Traffic Monitoring? Yup, that does its job well, too. You’ll receive audible warnings in the cabin, and your 8” infotainment screen to alert you of oncoming vehicles as you back out of a parking spot.
Space – not our final frontier
The 2022 Honda Accord sedan isn’t typically viewed as an alternative to larger crossovers and SUVs like the CR-V, but it still offers tremendous passenger and cargo space. The folks at Autoblog described the interior of the 2022 Accord as “Gigantic.” That’s appropriate since the Accord outdoes its competitors in spaciousness.
Front passengers will enjoy 42.3” of legroom while rear passengers are able to stretch out with a shocking 40.4” of legroom. Headroom comes in at a roomy 39.5” in the front seats and 37.3” in the back, as well. Riders upfront also benefit from available 12-way power-adjustable seats that can be heated and ventilated. Fanciness abounds in the Accord.
How much trunk space is in the Accord? More than most midsize cars or full-size sedans. The Accord offers a capacious 16.7 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk, which is enough boot space to fit 6 giant suitcases and a cooler to boot.
